Since the moment I was ripped from my mother's womb, I've been an outcast amongst my own kind. The Sidhe might possess magical Gifts, unbelievable wealth and unfathomable power but I don't want a thing to do with them. I ran away from their lands in the Highlands of Scotland when I was eleven years old and I've never looked back. I don't need a Clan. I've got my own family of highly skilled thieves who mean more to me than any Sidhe ever could.
Unfortunately for me, the playboy heir to the Moncrieffe Clan has something I desperately need. To get it back, I'm going to have to plunge myself back into that world, no matter what the consequences may be. I suppose it's just as well I have sense of humour. I think I'm going to need it.
This paranormal story set in modern day Scotland is an interesting and promising introduction to this new series.
Integrity is an orphan who is treated very badly by her ward, the head of a wealthy Sidhe Clan. She is from a Clan surrounded with mysteries and wasn't even named until she runs away. The high class of the Sidhe Clans rule with magic and wealth whereas the Clan-less are despised and treated with no respect. When Integrity runs away at a very young age, she meets Taylor who takes her under his wings. She joins his team of thieves. They become her family and as far as she is concerned she is not Sidhe.
Byron, the heir to one of the clans, renowned for his good looks and womanising has something that Integrity needs to help Taylor get out of a dangerous situation. Taylor's life is being threatened and the rest of her 'family" are in danger of losing their freedom. When Integrity discovers that Byron is staying in a hotel, she sets out to find him and hopefully steal what she so desperately needs. She would do anything for her family. Here comes the first twist!
Integrity is informed that she is needed to help the Sidhe Clans and the Clan-less from a disaster. She goes along with Byron and plans to make a swift escape once the mission is accomplished. It turns out that nothing is as it seems when she meets the Clans. From here on there endless twists and the surprises keep coming. Not in a good way. There are numerous attempts on her life but she retains her sense of humour!
The other thing is that there is an attraction between Integrity and Byron but with all the treachery going on, she is not sure that he can be trusted. She encovers than her father was not what everyone leads her to believe and at the same time, she is surprised when she identifies the one responsible for the latest attempt on her life. This is enough to leave her wondering if there is anyone she can trust besides her family. She has a plan though and the ending left me wanting for more.
This story builds up gradually and is full of magic, intrigue, suspense, jealousy, blackmail, lies and betrayal. Who knows where the real truth lies? I am hooked on this story and look forward to the next instalment. I would recommend to those who like the paranormal with new and different concepts.
